Student Researcher

A person who, as a student, receives guidance for thesis writing, etc., from a research advisor for a certain period at the research institute to acquire knowledge in their major field or pursue a degree, while participating in research and undergoing training.

Types

  • UST Student
  • Academia-Industry Collaboration Program Student
  • General Trainee

Qualifications

  • UST Student: A student enrolled in or registered as a completed student in the UST Master's or Doctoral degree program
  • Academia-Industry Collaboration Program Student: A student enrolled in or registered as a completed student in the Academia-Industry Collaborative Degree Program established through an agreement between the research institute and a university authorized by the Ministry of Education
  • General Trainee: A student who is not a UST Student or an Academia-Industry Collaboration Program Student but is enrolled in or registered as a completed student in a Master's or Doctoral degree program at a domestic graduate school

Recruitment Method

  • UST Student: Selected through UST admission procedures
  • Academia-Industry Collaboration Program Student: Separate recruitment by each university offering the program
  • General Trainee: Open recruitment conducted twice a year

Recruitment Process
(General Trainee)

  • Recruitment Method: Open competitive recruitment (twice a year)
  • Screening Method: Document screening and interview
  • Additional Points and Preferences: Preferential treatment for veterans, persons with disabilities, and women in science and technology in accordance with relevant laws and internal regulations
  • Eligibility (Refer to the public recruitment notice)
    • A person who does not fall under disqualification reasons
    • A person who has completed or is exempt from military service (However, student researchers who have not avoided their military service obligations but have not yet fulfilled them are also eligible)
    • A person who can transfer or newly join as a specialized research personnel
    • A person who meets certain requirements in terms of professional qualifications, research achievements, foreign language skills, or other necessary criteria for the field
  • Disqualifications (Refer to the public recruitment notice)
    • A person falling under any provision of Article 33 of the National Civil Service Act
    • A person who has attempted to evade military service
    • A person judged disqualified in the medical examination
    • A person whose civil rights are suspended or revoked by law
    • A person deemed unfit through a background check
    • A person whose employment at another public institution was canceled due to fraudulent recruitment

Training Period

  • Employment contracts are generally made within the qualification limits of student researchers, with contracts signed in units of less than one year per contract
  • Limited to the maximum period of enrollment for the degree program of the affiliated graduate school

Benefits and Welfare

Training Hours Salary
  • Master's Program: Up to 37 hours per week
  • Doctoral Program: Up to 34 hours per week
  • Master's Program: Up to 2,110,000 KRW per month before tax (for 37 hours per week)
  • Doctoral Program: Up to 2,550,000 KRW per month before tax (for 34 hours per week)
